Nutter Continues Strategic Expansion With Addition of Litigation Partner Kelly Begg Lawrence
Print PDFNutter is pleased to announce that Kelly Begg Lawrence has joined the Firm as a partner in its Government Enforcement group and Litigation Department. Based in Boston, Lawrence has extensive experience in health care, medical device, and agency regulatory matters, including more than two decades serving as an Assistant U.S. Attorney (D. Mass.) as its chief health care fraud prosecutor and in other key roles.
“Kelly’s lengthy tenure at the U.S. Attorney’s Office gives her a rare combination of trial experience, strategic judgment, and government insight that will be enormously valuable to our clients, particularly those facing complex litigation, investigations, and regulatory challenges in the health care, medical device, and manufacturing sectors,” said Michael Scott, co-managing partner of Nutter. “She adds tremendous strength to our litigation team and reinforces Nutter’s continued investment in exceptional talent and sophisticated client service.”
Lawrence served for five years as the Chief of the Health Care Fraud Unit in the Massachusetts U.S. Attorney’s office, litigating violations of federal health care laws, including Medicare/Medicaid and wire fraud, conspiracy, and criminal offenses under the Anti-Kickback statute, Controlled Substances Act, False Claims Act, and Food, Drug, and Cosmetics Act. Earlier in her career at the office, she served as an appellate attorney, a trial attorney in the Major Crimes Unit and Organized Crime and Gang Unit, and as the office’s Deputy Ethics Advisor.
“Kelly’s sound judgment from many years as both an accomplished trial lawyer and appellate lawyer will help guide and defend our clients in complex litigation, from investigation through trial and appeal,’’ said Ian Roffman, Chair of Nutter’s Securities Enforcement and Litigation Practice. “She’s an invaluable addition to our capacity in representing clients in complex matters, white-collar defense, and regulatory agency proceedings.”
Prior to joining the U.S. Attorney’s office, Lawrence served as a litigation and government enforcement attorney in private practice at a large Boston-based firm. She served as a law clerk for the Hon. Joan B. Gottschall, U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, and for the Hon. Joel M. Flaum, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit. Lawrence earned her J.D., cum laude, from Northwestern University School of Law and her B.A. from Dartmouth College.
