Client Success
Nutter represents former Afghani soldier and family in successfully obtaining asylum through PAIR Project.
Print PDFSituation with Client: Our client joined the Afghan National Army and U.S. Department of State Annex where he provided security to an American airfield and American personnel during the United States’ mission in Afghanistan. When the United States retreated from Afghanistan in 2021, our client and his family, including two very young children, were evacuated by the United States and granted humanitarian parole, but were not given any permanent legal status and their grant of parole was set to expire in 2023.
Action We Took: Working with the Political Asylum and Immigration Representation (PAIR) Project, Nutter submitted humanitarian parole renewal applications for the client, his wife, and two of his young children. Nutter then filed asylum petitions with the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services on their behalf. The firm submitted detailed evidence and guided the brave clients through a lengthy and difficult interview process, including arranging travel for the family when the government moved their interview to a different state late in the process.
Result: In November of 2024, the United States granted asylum to our client and his family, including his young children. Asylum grants the family the ability to permanently reside safely in the United States and provides a pathway to lawful permanent resident (green card) status and U.S. citizenship, should they choose to pursue it in the future.
