Overview

Justin R. Masterman is an associate in Nutter’s Real Estate Department. He focuses his practice on all aspects of commercial real estate law and finance. Justin represents owners, developers, and investors in a wide variety of real estate transactions across all asset types, including joint ventures, acquisitions and dispositions, debt and equity financings, leases, and permitting.

Notable Experience and Client Impact

  • Represented a London-based real estate private equity firm in connection with the acquisition of hotels in Los Angeles, New York City, Miami, and Chicago for approximately $400 million.
  • Drafted and negotiated the acquisition, disposition, and financing of numerous individual and portfolio transactions across the United States for local owner-operators, regional investment companies, and national, publicly traded REITs.
  • Drafted and negotiated development agreements, construction contracts, and joint venture agreements on behalf of developers and investors in large development projects in Massachusetts, including a 140-unit condo project in Norton, a 350-key micro-hotel in the Theater District, and a 160-unit mixed-use building in the South End of Boston.
  • Represented owners, investors, and developers in negotiations with the Boston Planning & Development Agency, Boston Zoning Board of Appeals, and other municipal and state bodies in connection with projects such as a net-zero residential condominium community in Jamaica Plain, a laboratory build-to-suit in the Seaport, and a 120-key design hotel in Allston.
  • Drafted and negotiated numerous large office, industrial, co-working, retail, laboratory, and ground leases, including one of Boston’s largest office leases ever and a co-working lease in a building that sold at the highest price ever for a co-working-anchored building in Washington D.C. history.

Justin is a member of the Urban Land Institute (ULI), NAIOP Massachusetts, and the Boston Bar Association (BBA). He serves as member of the Gen2Gen emerging leaders group at B’nai B’rith Housing, a nonprofit developer whose mission is to ease the housing crisis in Greater Boston. Justin formerly co-chaired the Public Policy Committee of the BBA’s Real Estate Section.

Prior to joining Nutter, Justin was an associate in the Boston office of an international law firm and before that he was an associate with a Boston real estate law firm. Earlier in his legal career, Justin was a Rappaport Fellow in Law & Public Policy in the Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office.
