Print PDFSteven Saunders, chair of Nutter’s Intellectual Property Department, will speak on February 5 as part of a virtual seminar hosted by the Social Law Library of Massachusetts. He will be presenting alongside several industry professionals on "How Are States Dealing With Non-Lawyers Owning Law Firms and How Will Artificial Intelligence Fit Into This?"
This program will center around the emergence of Generative AI and the changes to the forthcoming profound changes in the legal profession. Several states are considering, or implementing programs, that allow non-lawyers to work as legal advocates, or to own law firms. How will these changes affect our profession in the context of Generative AI platforms? Why are so many venture funds investing in legal tech platforms? Will lawyers be employees of large financial institutions that will provide legal services in the future, much like doctors and other professionals? Is the emergence of Generative AI a boost to access to justice?
