Nutter Commits to 2024-25 Mansfield Certification Process
Print PDFNutter is pleased to announce its participation in the Diversity Lab’s 2024-25 Mansfield Certification process. Mansfield is a year-long structured certification process that is designed to ensure that all qualified individuals at participating law firms have a transparent, fair, and equal opportunity to be considered for advancement into leadership.
Mansfield Certification requires law firms to consider broad slates of qualified individuals for firm leadership roles, with those slates including at least 30% historically underrepresented lawyers, including women lawyers, underrepresented racial and ethnic lawyers, LGBTQ+ lawyers, and lawyers with disabilities. Most recently, Nutter achieved 2022-2023 Mansfield Certification. The 2022-2023 Certification marked the fourth consecutive year that Nutter has earned Mansfield Certification.
Nutter’s equity and diversity efforts are led by its Co-Managing Partners, Liam O’Connell and Michael Scott, its Executive Committee, and the Firm’s Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Committee, which is co-chaired by Partners Ian Roffman and Johanna Wise Sullivan, and comprised of members of the Firm’s Executive Committee, partners from all practice areas, and other Firm leaders. The EDI Committee establishes firm-wide strategy related to equity, diversity, and inclusion and directs the work of subcommittees that design and implement initiatives that promote an inclusive Firm culture. Members of these subcommittees include partners, associates, and staff.
The Mansfield Rule originated in the 2016 Women in Law Hackathon, which was hosted by Diversity Lab in collaboration with Bloomberg Law and Stanford Law School. Named in honor of Arabella Mansfield, the first woman admitted to the practice of law in the United States, the initiative aims to increase diversity in leadership ranks within the legal profession.
