Sarah Turano-Flores, a partner in Nutter’s Real Estate Department and member of the firm’s Development, Land Use and Permitting practice group, has been nominated by Governor Maura Healey to serve as an Associate Justice of the Massachusetts Land Court. Turano-Flores’s nomination is subject to final confirmation by the Governor’s Council.

“With over 30 years of legal experience, Attorney Turano-Flores has developed a unique understanding of the complexities of land-related disputes, and I look forward to seeing her apply that experience on the Land Court,” said Governor Healey in an announcement. “We appreciate the Governor’s Council’s careful consideration of her nomination.”

“All of us at Nutter are so proud and delighted for Sarah on her nomination to serve as a judge on the Massachusetts Land Court,” said Michael Scott, Nutter’s co-managing partner.  “Sarah will bring a wealth of experience and unique understanding of the complexities of land-related disputes to the court. It’s a tremendous honor and a testament to her deep experience in real estate and land use law and to her commitment to public service.”

Since joining Nutter in 2006, Turano-Flores has provided counsel to private clients in land development matters, state and local permitting, permitting appeals, and real estate title disputes. Turano-Flores has also served as town counsel and special counsel to various state and local agencies within the Commonwealth. In addition, she has made a lasting impact through her work with the Cape Cod Times Needy Fund and the Cape & Islands Major Crisis Relief Fund.

The seven-member Land Court, a department of the Massachusetts Land Court based in the Suffolk County Courthouse in Boston, has statewide jurisdiction over a broad range of cases involving real estate and land use. The Land Court also oversees the Commonwealth’s system for the registration of title to real property.
