Nutter Attorneys Participate in 25th Walk to the Hill for Civil Legal Aid
Print PDFNutter attorneys will participate in the annual Walk to the Hill for Civil Legal Aid on January 25 to urge legislators to support civil legal aid by fully funding the Massachusetts Legal Assistance Corporation (MLAC)‘s line-item request. For Fiscal Year 2025, MLAC is asking the Massachusetts State Legislature for $55 million to support 16 civil legal aid organizations across the Commonwealth. Unlike criminal defendants, people with low incomes who are facing serious civil legal problems—including those related to domestic violence, housing, healthcare, employment, government benefits, bankruptcy, and elder issues—do not have the right to an attorney in most cases. Legal aid organizations provide essential representation and advice to help vulnerable people protect basic human needs for health, safety, and housing.
“Nutter has a long history of participating in this event, and we are proud to continue to be a force for positive change in the community,” said Nick Stabile, who served as Nutter’s captain this year.
The Equal Justice Coalition's (EJC) Walk to the Hill for Civil Legal Aid is an annual event that gathers private bar attorneys, legal aid lawyers, and law students at the Massachusetts State House to advocate for the importance of protecting and increasing civil legal aid. Nutter has supported Walk to the Hill since its inaugural year.
