Overview

Nikki Marie Sherwood is a partner in Nutter’s Private Client Department. Her practice focuses on estate and tax planning for high net worth clients, including trust and estate administration, serving as a trustee, probate, charitable planning with private foundations, and special needs planning. Clients rely on Nikki to draft sophisticated estate planning instruments, such as spousal lifetime access trusts, grantor retained annuity trusts, life insurance trusts, intentionally defective grantor trusts, qualified personal residence trusts, and charitable remainder trusts. She also represents her clients in court proceedings regarding trust issues as well as in probate matters such as special personal representative appointments, guardianships and conservatorships. 

Nikki is the chair of the Professional Advisors Network of the Boston Foundation. Nikki also serves on the board of the National Conference of Women’s Bar Associations and is a member of the Women’s Bar Association. In addition, Nikki is a member of the Boston Bar Association, where she is a co-chair of the BBA’s Trusts & Estates Section and serves on the Board of Editors of the Boston Bar Journal. Previously, she co-chaired the Estate Planning Committee, Practice Fundamentals Committee, the Public Service Committee and the Communications Committee of the BBA’s Trusts & Estates Section. Nikki is also a Supporting Fellow of the Boston Bar Foundation and has held various leadership positions in the Boston Bar Foundation. Nikki is a member of the Boston Estate Planning Council, where she is the chair of the Roundtables Committee, and also serves as Treasurer of the Trusts & Estates Consortium. In 2020, Nikki participated in the Boston Future Leaders Program of the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce, and in 2022, Nikki was awarded the Accredited Estate Planner (AEP) designation from the National Association of Estate Planners & Councils. She regularly presents and publishes on estate planning law and taxation issues.

Nikki is the author of Chapter 13 of Estate Planning Law and Taxation – Planning for Incapacity and Financing Long-Term Care and is also a contributing author of The Elder Law Forms Manual and served as Comment and Note Editor of the New England Law Review.

Prior to joining Nutter, Nikki was an associate at a Boston-based boutique trusts and estates law firm. She gained legal experience as a clinical intern for the Appellate Tax Board. During law school, Nikki served as a research assistant at the New England School of Law.
