Pro Bono & NutterCares
Commitment to Pro Bono
At Nutter, we are committed to social justice and progressive social causes. We are proud to be a founding member and challenge participant in the Pro Bono Institute’s Law Firm Pro Bono Project. Law firms that become Signatories to the Challenge acknowledge their institutional, firm-wide commitment to provide pro bono legal services to low income and disadvantaged individuals and families and non-profit groups. Each year, Nutter proudly honors its commitment to spend 3 percent of the firm’s paying client billable hours on pro bono work. Recent pro bono projects include our initiative with EMC to take on cases for KIND, Kids In Need of Defense, and our work with the Civil Appeals Clinic's Pro Bono Program. In 2016, Nutter was proud to receive the Pro Bono Law Firm Award at the Massachusetts Bar Association's Annual Access to Justice Awards.
Outside of the Challenge pledge, Nutter attorneys also engage in a wide variety of civic, charitable, educational, social, and political efforts in the communities in which they live and work. They hold leadership roles in scores of non-profit organizations both locally and across the United States.

Commitment to Community
Our firm values strengthening our communities through acts of service and volunteerism. Through our NutterCares initiative, we are dedicated to supporting and encouraging all members of the firm to get involved in their communities through volunteer work and philanthropy. We are serious about helping communities that need it and will benefit from our involvement the most. The practice of law is a public service and provides attorneys with the ability to advise those in need on a pro bono basis. One thing members of the Nutter community value is working for an organization that gives back. Clients also tell us they appreciate that we volunteer in the communities in which we live and work. Nutter has a long history in Boston and community involvement is a pillar of Louis Brandeis’s legacy. NutterCares is another facet for the firm to exemplify these ideals.
The firm formally schedules volunteer events throughout the year. Nutter attorneys and professional staff are also encouraged to seek their own opportunities and causes they support.
